With its doors closed, The Library’s popular programming moves online
While its eight libraries are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, members can enjoy fun and educational activities with children and find stimulating new reads on The Library’s Facebook page and Beyond the Shelves Blog.

“Our staff is keeping the community connected and engaged,’’ said Executive Director Karen Cullings. “Families can still share the joy of reading with their kids. Book lovers can discuss the latest great read. Even residents who don’t have the internet for crucial things like job searches or taking online GED classes can access WiFi from outside our buildings.”

Among the programing featured on The Library’s Facebook site are the popular Born to Read and Family Storytime activities.

Even with schools closed, Dauphin County students get a leg up on learning through
All Ready Access
The Library’s All Ready Access program is an outreach program putting library cards in the hands of Dauphin County students – expanding the availability of research and reading materials -- and especially timely as schools closed this spring.

“Students have access to all of our online resources and all of our online lending materials,” says Hannah Killian, The Library’s Youth Services Administrator. “They can check out eBooks and eAudiobooks.”

Since launching All Ready Access in 2018, The Library is rolling it out district by district. Today, Susquehanna Township and Steelton-Highspire school districts are participating, Halifax Area School District’s program is under development, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Harrisburg has a program. Under the effort, districts share student ID numbers and The Library creates a district-specific library card for each.

  • The Library's buildings are closed indefinitely.

Community Aid Update

Community Aid is asking donors to postpone donating items to Community Aid boxes. Several of our libraries are Community Aid donation sites.
If you were planning to donate, please hold off until further notice. Community Aid is currently unable to empty their donation bins, and all items placed outside the bins cannot be used.

Major John Griner, commander of the Salvation Army Capital City Region, is proud to partner with The Library for their summer youth enrichment programs that serve students from pre-K to eighth grade. Currently, he is reading “Morning and Evening,” an old English devotional by Charles Spurgeon, as well as books on dealing with worry and anxiety so he can help counsel people during these unsettling times.
